Preliminary

1.In this charter, unless contrary intention appears:

church-wide leadership: means, both individually and collectively, the Senior Pastor and the Deacon Board.
Deacon: means the deacon appointed to be responsible for the English Ministry.
EMC: means the English Ministry Committee as described by this charter.
Pastor: means the Associate Pastor (English Ministry).
voting member: means a person who is eligible to attend and vote at General Meetings of North Side Chinese Alliance Church.

Purpose of the English Ministry Committee

2.The English Ministry Committee is a group of mature, experienced Christian leaders, appointed by the church-wide leadership, that:

(1)seeks to understand and relate to the whole of the English Congregation

(2)relates to the Chinese Congregation and the church-wide leadership

(3)makes decisions regarding the strategic planning and the day-to-day administration to serve the English Congregation in humility, to give direction and purpose to the English Ministry

(4)performs a spiritual role with respect to the English Congregation under the authority of the Associate Pastor (English Ministry) and the church-wide leadership

Members of the English Ministry Committee

Composition and Qualities

3.The English Ministry Committee is to be composed of mature, experienced Christian leaders within the English Congregation.

4.The Pastor is the ex officio chair of the EMC.

5.In addition to the Key Qualities as documented in EMD 12 Key Qualities for Leaders in the English Ministry, members of the EMC are expected to:

(1)be voting members of North Side Chinese Alliance Church

(2)be leaders of a ministry group within the English Ministry

(3)have a vision of developing the ministry groups in the English Ministry

(4)be able to think strategically and over the long term

(5)personally care for members within the English Ministry

(6)encourage the English Ministry as a whole to serve the community and the world

(7)be aware of the continuous changes both in the world and in the English Congregation, in order to strategically plan for the English Ministry

Appointment

6.Members of the EMC are appointed by the Deacon Board.

7.These appointments are to be renewed annually by the Deacon Board, on a recommendation by the Pastor.

8.New appointments to the EMC are by invitation only. To appoint a new candidate to become a member of the EMC:

(1)The EMC sends an invitation to the candidate.

(2)If the candiate accepts the invitation, the EMC, along with the Pastor, makes a recommendation to the Deacon Board that the candidate be appointed to the EMC.

(3)If the Deacon Board agrees, the candidate is appointed.

Role of the Deacon

9.It is expected that the Deacon will work closely with the EMC. Examples of this close involvement include:

(1)attending (administrative) meetings of the EMC;

(2)acting as the primary liaison between the Deacon Board and the EMC, or more generally, between the Chinese and English Congregations; and

(3)supporting the role of the EMC to fulfil its purpose as described in paragraph 2, or more generally, the mission statement of the English Congregation as described in EMD 10 Manifesto of the English Ministry.

10.The aim of this involvement is to allow the church to maintain a wholistic view of the ministry across both Congregations.
